Announcement: Cinema of Commoning Returns in 2024!

Cinema of Commoning is a project by bi’bak and various international partners which brings together a network of alternative cinema initiatives from around the world to share knowledge and ideas. After a successful first edition in 2022, Cinema of Commoning will return this year to weave an even larger global network, with a new set of partners (to be announced in February 2024), an international screening program and a symposium.

We’re thrilled to share the news that Cinema of Commoning will return to Berlin in 2024!

Through hybrid conversations, Cinema of Commoning envisions an alternative cinematic future grounded in the principles of the “commons,” emphasizing accessibility, artistic freedom, and financial sustainability. In the first phase, starting this spring, a collaboratively curated film program will begin at SİNEMA TRANSTOPIA in Berlin and at partner cinemas around the world. These screenings aim to spark collective discussions and pave the way for a cinema that transcends borders. The project will culminate in Berlin in July with our second Cinema of Commoning symposium, a three-day program of talks, panels, screenings and events where partner initiatives, film professionals, and cinephiles will converge to discuss concepts, ideas and strategies for building an inclusive and sustainable film culture.

Cinema of Commoning advocates for cinema as a transnational arena for artistic and social practice, a hub for public discourse, an agent of cultural memory and urban heritage, and a sanctuary preserving and disseminating rarely accessible film and video formats. Join us in Berlin to join the conversation, and to celebrate the transformative potential of cinema!
